Role Overview

The Head of Strategy will report directly to the CEO and work in close partnership with the Senior Management Team. The role is pivotal in setting Marley Risk’s long-term direction, driving transformation, and identifying growth opportunities.

As a key member of the leadership team, you will ensure that strategy, operations, and execution are fully aligned across the business. You will play a central role in shaping the company’s future, bringing data-driven insight, market intelligence, and innovation to the table.   This is a role for someone who thrives on challenge, is comfortable navigating uncertainty, and is willing to push the boundaries of what’s possible.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership

  • Lead the development and delivery of Marley Risk’s multi-year Strategic Plan in line with the company’s mission and growth ambitions.

  • Partner with the CEO and SMT to define corporate objectives, investment priorities, and key initiatives.

  • Ensure cross-functional alignment of strategy with operational delivery.

  • Challenge conventional thinking and identify bold opportunities for growth and innovation.

Market & Competitive Intelligence

  • Monitor market trends, competitor moves, and regulatory shifts to provide timely insights.

  • Identify and assess new business opportunities, risks, and partnerships.

  • Proactively anticipate challenges and navigate uncertainty in complex market environments.

Business Transformation & Growth

  • Drive strategic initiatives, including new market entry, product/service innovation, and operational transformation.

  • Support M&A activities (scouting, evaluation, due diligence, integration).

  • Lead change initiatives with courage, resilience, and a willingness to take calculated risks.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Act as a trusted advisor to the CEO and SMT, contributing to decision-making at the highest level.

  • Translate strategy into clear goals and communicate effectively across the organisation.

Performance & Measurement

  • Define and track KPIs to monitor execution against strategic goals.

  • Report regularly to the CEO and SMT on progress, challenges, and adjustments.

Skills & Experience

  • Proven track record (10+ years) in strategy, corporate development, or senior leadership roles within risk management, financial services, insurance, or consulting.

  • Strong experience in strategic planning, execution, and transformation.

  • Deep understanding of risk, resilience, and regulatory dynamics.

  • Exposure to M&A, digital transformation, or scaling operations preferred.

  • Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

  • Experience engaging at Board or C-suite level.

Success Criteria – First 6 Months

1. Strategic Planning and Vision

  • Completed a comprehensive review of Marley Risk’s current strategy, identifying strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats.

  • Presented a clear, actionable 6–12-month strategic roadmap aligned with the CEO and SMT priorities.

  • Identified 2–3 high-impact growth or transformation opportunities for immediate action.

2. Market Intelligence and Insights

  • Delivered market analysis and competitor benchmarking to inform key strategic decisions.

  • Highlighted emerging risks, trends, or regulatory shifts that could affect the business in the near term.

  • Provided actionable recommendations to capitalize on opportunities or mitigate risks.

3. Cross-Functional Alignment

  • Built strong working relationships with the SMT and key business leaders.

  • Ensured alignment of strategic initiatives with operational priorities across the business.

  • Established clear communication channels to cascade strategy and objectives across teams.

4. Execution and Initiative Delivery

  • Successfully launched at least one strategic initiative (e.g., market entry, product enhancement, or process improvement) within the first six months.

  • Defined and implemented KPIs for key initiatives to monitor progress and impact.

  • Demonstrated the ability to drive projects from concept to delivery, overcoming obstacles and uncertainty.

5. Leadership and Influence

  • Acted as a trusted advisor to the CEO and SMT, providing insight-driven recommendations.

  • Influenced decision-making at the leadership level with confidence, clarity, and credibility.

  • Demonstrated the ability to challenge conventional thinking while maintaining collaborative relationships.

6. Personal Impact

  • Shown comfort navigating uncertainty and taking ownership of complex challenges.

  • Contributed to a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.
