Dispute Resolution

During the initial period of a new home warranty (typically the first two years), the developer or builder of the property is obligated to rectify any defects notified by the homeowner during this period.

It is a pretty straightforward concept in theory but in practice it can often become complex and challenging for the homeowner and developer to reach agreement on a resolution.

Reaching a resolution

New home warranties are quite specific in their definition of a defect and even then, it may require the input of a buildings expert to help determine if a defect is present and what needs to be done to resolve the problem.

The Dispute Resolution Service is a provision outlined in a new home warranty with the objective of supporting both the homeowner and developer in reaching a satisfactory resolution. We operate with impartiality and transparency, whilst seeking to understand the overall situation and viewpoints of those involved.  We work with both parties to establish clarity around potential defects and agreement as to their subsequent resolution.
